Emerald

The most well-known type of Beryl is, however, Emerald which is noted for its green hue. Chromium and sometimes vanadium is present and these gives the steel its greenish colour. Aquamarine

Aquamarine with its pale blue which refers to the sea water has its name combined from the Latin words for water – aqua and sea – mare. The blue color is due to the iron present in the crystal which scatters the light. The major sources are Brazil, Madagascar as well as Russia.

Morganite

Morganite is similar in color to soft pink to peach; it was named after AIM’s J. P. Morgan. The color which is pink is as a result of impurities present in the form of manganese. It is widely used for jewelry making as it holds great transparency and a shiny surface. The morganite is made mostly in Afghanistan, Brazil, and California in the United States of America.

Heliodor

Heliodor is the golden yellow to greenish yellow member of the Beryl mineral family. The name is derived from the word helios, the Greek word for sun and doron which means gift. This yellow colouration is related to iron. Heliodor sources include Brazil, Madagascar, Namibia and Ukraine.

Goshenite

Purest of beryl is called as Goshenite and it is not colored at all. It is called Goshen due to the town in Massachusetts where it was first identified. Nevertheless, it is not so popular in jewelry production as coloured ones but is valued by collectors. Goshenite is contained in Brazil, China, and the USA.

Red Beryl (Bixbite)

Another very rare mineral from the Beryl group is Red Beryl or Bixbite that exhibits raspberry red color. This is so rare that is grouped among those gemstones that are mined in very few regions globally with the US specifically Utah and New Mexico being the biggest producers.

Green Beryl

Green Beryl can be easily confused with emerald, although it is not nearly as rich in hue as a genuine emerald should be. It is paler green to almost colorless in some cases. Emerald can be quite expensive, especially since green beryl can act as a suitable substitute for the former.

Every type of Beryl has its characteristics and different price depending on the saturation of color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Thus, Beryl is not only appreciated for the magnificent color palette but also for hardness from 7. 5 to 8 on Mohs scale and it is used in all the categories of jewelries.
